In this session, The Human Caregiver Syndrome
Parenting high-needs children is profoundly meaningful, and profoundly taxing. Chronic
vigilance, advocacy fatigue, and emotional intensity take a toll.
In this session, we will:
Explore the physiology of caregiver stress and burnout
Identify early warning signs of stress
Develop sustainable self-regulation and burnout-prevention strategies for the whole
family
Kelly Smith, MSW, RSW, is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist licensed in Ontario and British Columbia. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor and degrees in social work and psychology from the University of Waterloo. Kelly specializes in trauma-informed, attachment-based therapy and integrates EMDR, AEDP, DBT, EFT, ACT, play therapy, Sandtray-Worldplay, mindfulness, movement, breathwork, and somatic techniques. Certified as a Trauma Professional, Kelly is particularly experienced in supporting individuals and families recovering from complex trauma, motor vehicle accidents, brain injuries, and relational trauma.
A dynamic presenter, Kelly has facilitated over 100 workshops across Canada and is known for translating brain science into practical and grounded tools that parents and professionals can use immediately.
