EXPERIENCE
THE MADRONA

MAGIC

WHO ARE THE

GIFTED LEARNERS?

Gifted students have many attributes that make them tenacious learners, but many struggle with the broad teaching approach offered by large-scale or public schools.

At Madrona, we acknowledge and focus on the following traits to support our gifted learners;

mm-coping-min.png

COPING WITH FAILURE

For gifted students, failure can be a new and difficult experience. However, we believe that learning to cope with failure positively is necessary to cultivate problem-solving skills, and confidence in risk-taking and learning.

SENSITIVITY

Gifted students are often highly sensitive, which also gives them amazing learning capabilities. We believe in fostering a learning environment that is conducive to our students and offers challenges within their comfort zone.

MOTIVATION

We believe in nurturing, not only the intellectual growth, but also the emotional growth of each child. Fostering each student’s confidence, curiosity and drive is what gives our student the continued motivation to learn and excel.

WHY CHOOSE

MADRONA?

Madrona School exists for the education of gifted and bright students. We know that each student’s gifts are different, and we celebrate the unique qualities of our students to prepare them for the world we share.

At Madrona, our advantage is our low student-to-educator ratio, which allows us to focus on project-based and independent learning. The team at Madrona acknowledges that many gifted students are advanced in some areas but need support in other areas. Our teaching approach allows us to intentionally address and personalize the asynchronous pathways of each of our students.

MESSAGE FROM
THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

"

Dear Friends of Madrona,

I am very excited to be Head of School for the 2023-24 school year. Madrona staff are kind, professional, and understand gifted and bright children, and I look forward to working closely with our staff, students, and families to ensure that the needs of all Madrona students are being met.

Our school goes beyond the walls of the classrooms and into the surrounding community for opportunities to explore and learn. Our educators are versed in making the curriculum feel applicable so our students can dig deeply into the "why" of learning. The magic of Madrona is created through our team's expertise and devotion to helping students grow, not just intellectually, but socially and emotionally as well.

I encourage you to visit Madrona to see our students and teachers in action. We would love to show you how we are a wonderful school for gifted, bright, and sensitive learners.

MADRONA'S

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL APPROACH

At Madrona, our team places great importance in understanding our gifted students and working alongside parents to create better learning environments, better relationships, and a more fulfilling childhood for our students and their families.

Our low student-to-educator ratio allows our team to focus on fostering these three relationships with our students;

RECOGNIZE

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood. Our teachers have the capacity to get to know, understand, and listen to each student, and to respond to each students' learning needs and struggles.

mm-trust-min.png

TRUST

Teachers are given the opportunity to establish trust between them and the students. Students who feel safe and secure are more open and receptive to exploring new concepts.

MENTAL
WELLBEING

Our low ratio and small class sizes allow students to form deep and meaningful connections with their teachers and their peers – fostering lifelong social-emotional skills and mental wellbeing.

"

After leaving Madrona in 2019, I attended the University Transition Program at UBC, graduated from high school in 2020, and began pursuing my university education. I’ve just completed my second year of a combined Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Computer Science, and Masters of Management degree, both of which I will graduate with in 2024. I’m now working full time as a software engineer intern at Dialogue Health Technologies, where I’m able to combine my passion for coding with my interest in helping people and making the world a better place through technology.
