Our world-renowned and highly adored music teacher, Breigin McGurk is slowly but surely converting Madrona to the Irish way of doing things. And the kids are loving it.
Last Thursday, Breigin invited Catherine Flynn to Madrona to teach the students the basics of Irish Dancing.
As you'll see when you look at the photos, they had a tremendous time - and definitely kicked up a storm!
Thank you Catherine.
And Breigin, we're keeping an eye on you. (This coming from an O'Donnell, of course).

The founder of ROBOkids and the coach of the BC First Lego League Robotics competition champion, Jason Zhang, is about to bring his experience and passion to the Madrona classroom. He holds a Masters Degree of Education from the California State University and has successfully integrated his philosophy of “Visual Learning” into a fun and dynamic robotics curriculum that is offered in both Richmond and UBC. Students are challenged in hands-on activities to develop their own innovative solution for each problem presented, helping to develop out-of-the-box thinking that is important for future managers and inventors. Jason will do 10-12 sessions with Madrona students at the school beginning after the March Break. We are deeply grateful for his generosity.

"Did rain dampen our Madrona spirit?"
"Of course not!"
On Wednesday, February 8, we were off to Cypress Mountain to have a day of winter fun... and fun we had. Mid way through we did get wet, but that didn't seem to slow down the antics or enjoyment. Tubing is hilarity and excitement. We all slept well that night.

As we all know, Madrona doesn't have a gym. Someday though...
For now we try as often as possible to take the children out on highly worthwhile Phys. Ed. excursions.
Our latest one is gymnastics, which got rave reviews from the kids. For the last 3 Wednesdays, our students studied the rudiments of Gymnastics at U.B.C.
We have created a photo gallery to show off their interest and participation. Check it out.

This past week, the grade 4/5 class has been studying famous poets. Included were Alfred Noyes, Lewis Carroll and everybody's favourite - T.S. Eliot and his book, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.
Not only was the book a hit but also we watched excerpts from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, which used it for the source of the lyrics for the Broadway musical.
Monday's class? Why we are going to sing and study The Cat Came Back - yet another T.S. Eliot source. It has been great fun.
