Appropriate and Meaningful Homework |
|
There is homework.
Parents are requested to monitor it and intervene if their child has a problem completing homework in a reasonable amount of time.
- All schools struggle with the contentious issue of homework. At Madrona, homework is a natural outcome of the day's activities. We ask that students complete unfinished work before the next day, but we do not assign new work to do at home.
- Homework should occupy a reasonable and not intrusive amount of time in family life. If a child seems over-burdened to you and is exhibiting signs of distress on a given night, please curtail the work and contact the school the next day. We will diagnose the problem and remediate it.
- The curriculum of students in Grades 4 and 5 involves minimal homework. Students in the senior grades are preparing for secondary school and consequently may have more work to do at home. Regardless of grade, the needs of the child are our first consideration.
