We will prepare your child for Grade 8 and beyond, academically and socially.
We expect that many students will enter Grade 8 above grade level in at least some subjects. We will provide unassailable documentation (student notebooks, tests, work samples) to the child's next school to support plans for appropriate accommodation.
We will spend time with students in their final year at Madrona and help to develop strategies to assist them in their entrance to a larger school.
Our goal is to be a deeply academic school, while at the same time providing social conditions that allow children to flourish.
We are currently working on an ambitious program which will provide students the opportunity to graduate Madrona with a special Certificate of Academic Distinction. More about this will be forthcoming in future articles. It is hoped to be up and running in time for the 2012-13 school year. Students who opt to earn this certificate will have the regular curriculum streamlined (except in Mathematics) and will be provided with a rigorous series of academic challenges, bolstered by considerable class time and teacher mentoring. This will not be mandatory, but it will provide our most academically adept students a serious goal, which in turn will come to be recognized as a sign of great achievement by secondary schools.
