Who Is Madrona For

Who is Madrona School For?

Madrona School Society provides an optimal academic and social experience for the following children:

  • Children who are between Grades 1 and 9 in terms of age and/or academic ability.
  • Children who are on the spectrum between bright and gifted, at least in some academic areas. Such children may also have learning disabilities - we thrive on enhancing the bright/gifted aspect, while remediating areas of challenge. As of September 2012, we are taking in any student fitting this criteria from Grade 1 through 9.
  • Children who have been home-schooled and are ready to take the first step into the school system can be ideal candidates. Our small environment is perfect for you.
  • Children whose academic needs are not being met in large classrooms. We have a maximum student-teacher ratio of 1:14, and in the core subjects - Language Arts and Mathematics - our ratio is 1:6.

Who can Madrona not provide for?

Children whose behavioural problems are extreme enough to warrant formal assessment regretfully cannot be accommodated at Madrona School. In a small environment such as ours, the presence of a single student with huge behavioural challenges can have an extraordinarily deleterious effect on the well-being of the whole class.

Obviously all children (as well as adults) have off-days and make poor decisions at times. We expect and are well-equipped to work with children who fall into this range. However children with deep-seated anger management problems or those who are emotionally impenetrable fall outside the range of our mandate.
