British Columbia Curriculum

Madrona School is a Society and, as such, its mandate is to follow all aspects of the British Columbia Curriculum. In return, we receive some funding per pupil.

We are inspected top to bottom by the Ministry for Independent Schools every six years. The last such inspection was in 2009 and the school, led then by Janet Hamilton, received a magnificent evaluation.

Our mandate includes the following:

  • Providing a minimum of 850 hours of instructional time. Madrona currently uses about 880 hours.
  • Tailoring our curriculum goals to meet the Prescribed Learning Outcomes for each Grade Level, as per the B.C. Curriculum guidelines.
  • Meeting all other legal and technical requirements that apply to Independent Schools in British Columbia.
